Travel Stipends:

Only MOUSE Squad Educators from outside the New York City metro region can apply for a limited number of $250 travel stipends to attend the MOUSE Squad Educators Conference. MOUSE Squad Educators who submit an accepted proposal to present or lead a workshop at the conference, can apply for a $500 stipend instead. Unless special arrangements have been made, stipends will be given out as checks on the day of the conference, at the registration table.

Email Meredith@mouse.org , subject "Travel Stipend", for more information.

Lodging for the Conference:

If possible, we recommend that you share a double room with another teacher to save on costs - NYC is a very expensive place to travel! Hotels in Manhattan typically run for over $300 a night and up - which can be affordable if you decide to share a room with a double bed. Hotels in the metro area surrounding Manhattan (New Jersey, Brooklyn, Queens, near the airports) can be more affordable, but less convenient because you will have an hour or more commute to get to the conference.

It is easy to browse your lodging options using a travel-website like priceline.com or expedia.com (and sort your search results by price). If you choose to stay at a hotel not in Manhattan, call before booking online - ask "how long will it take to get from the hotel to rockefeller center by public transportation?"

Here are the best deals I found - each as availability to host all of you, as of right now; one in Manhattan (very convenient to the conference), one near the Newark Airport (if you are flying into NJ) and one near LaGuardia Airport, in Brooklyn.

MANHATTAN/

Four Points by Sheraton (in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan - 10-15 mins to the conference): $305/night for a room with 2 double beds. They have several rooms still available as of today, so if you wanted to share rooms with each other to split the costs, then it would only be $150 or so each a night - this is very affordable for a central Manhattan hotel! Since many of the Manhattan hotels I searched for were already booked up completely, I would recommend reserving your rooms soon, if you choose to stay here.

NEWARK, NJ/

If you are flying into Newark Airport, you could consider a hotel in New Jersey, near the airport, that has both an airport shuttle bus AND is also near a bus or a train to NYC. Remember to ask the hotel manager how long it will take to get to Rockefeller Center, by subway, from the hotel - so you known what time to leave the hotel in order to get to the conference on time - I would plan for it to take at least an hour or hour and a half.

$99/night (single occupancy): Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Newark Liberty International Airport - https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/ewrfs

LAGUARDIA AIRPORT/

If you are flying into LaGuardia, you will probably need to take a taxi from the airport to your hotel (they are easy to find, follow the signs near the baggage claim for ground transportation) - make sure you bring your hotel's address (including cross street) and phone number, in case the driver doesn't know how to get there.

$86/night: Red Carpet Inn NYC (brooklyn) (across the street from the NYC subway) http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60827-d530296-Reviews-Red_Carpet_Inn-Brooklyn_New_York.html (click on "check rates" to find the $86/night price on hotels.com or expedia.com)
